9th December 1972,The very auspicious day on which Mahaavatar Sri Aurobindo’s Relics was installed at Matrubhaban at 10AM.
By the blessings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother Chairman Babaji Maharaj and Founder Sri U. N. Samantaray started the educational wing on 18th July 1975. The Mother approved the name Sri Aurobindo Institute of Higher Studies and Research given by Sadhak, Professor Sri Prapatti.
On 8th August 1988, the +2 section (Arts) was started. On 9th September 2000 Science and Commerce section were started. Now affiliated strength in Arts 64seats, Commerce 48 seats and Science 128 seats.
It is only for U.N. Samantaray, the founder secretary of this institution, this became a centre of Mother’s work in orissa which organises state wise as well as National activities throughout the year.
Maintained like an ashram, the college campus offers a unique blend of academic and spiritual facilities.

Sri Animesh Samantaray, the son of Sri U.N.Samantray went to Sri Aurobindo Ashram for his education, he suggested the idea of bringing Relics to Cuttack. Sri U. N. Samantaray by the advice and inspiration of Babaji Maharaj and Prapatti arranged everything for the Lord's coming to this place.
